I don't think either of those performances are in the same league as 3/39/90. But I'm certainly no expert on the Grateful Dead's performances of the 90's. Frankly I can't imagine why anyone would bother listening to 90's shows when there is so much extraordinary music available from the 60's and 70's. In fact I'll take a show from '66 over a Persian-junk Heineken mailed-in show from the 90's every time...

3 - 39 - 90 was hot . CH , I'm a bit surprised . Usually I know exactly where you stand . I'm still confused .

Are you a closet '90's lover ?

No such luck! 3/29/90 was the very last show that I attended. And though I immediately knew that I was witnessing something very special during that Bird Song, I'm very grateful that I had the good sense to stop wasting my time and money going to shows thereafter...

I'm 1/2 with you . I want to hear it all from 66-79, and am more selective after that date . But the reason to, "bother listening to 90's shows", (etc) is variety ,and to keep the earlier stuff fresh . When you listen to a , say, 72 Europe show one after another ( hats off to your epic endeavor !), the typical 1st set songs, though well played, can sound like the next one ( early "Sugarees' ). If you , break them up , with shows from other eras, it is easier to enjoy those songs .
And , of course , there are those songs like "Foolish Heart",or "Days Between", that only occur later .
But If I was going to the proverbial desert island, and ad to pick one or the other , a 74 show would win in a flash... though I would still miss the others .
